The problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Date: 2006-01-11 06:00 pm (UTC)when I first became active in the SCA I joined House Dragonsbane under High Rafters and Clan Yamakamanari (or however it's spelled) The head of Dragonsbane is Boris. One day I went out to the Shire of Coppertree's fencing practice (this is back when I fenced not only actively locally I traveled to 4 other practices a week. - oh for the days of healthy ankles but I digress)
At the practice Boris asked if I wanted to meet the Heir to the principality throne. I had gone to coronet tourney that weekend and seen the fight so said sure. That is how I met Duke Sir Morguhn Sheridan, heir to the throne of the Principality of AEthelmearc.
Then at Pennsic that year it was HOT... Pennsic 24 the year of "can the thermometer reach that high?!?!" I wasn't sleeping well, had broken up with the boyfriend earlier in the summer but was stuck camping next to him as in less than 2 feet from. My friend Aine dragged me off to another camp to hide. Lo and behold it was Caer Cinniuit and the Heir and Heiress to the Throne, Morguhn and Meirwen and the Duchezz Rowan. I spent the war hiding in their camp, sleeping in the shade of Morguhn's tent and all. By the end of war I was invited to join the household. After the reign I gave them my answer. I've been sworn to Morguhn ever since.
For Boo and Boogie...
My first Caer Christmas was the winter after first meeting the Caer. I was spending the night as it was a long trek from Rochester to bummble no-where they were living in. Some little town south of New Hartford/Rome/Utica (route 12)
I was to sleep on the floor in Boss' room at the foot of the bed. Just before going to bed, some bedraggled thing arrived, looking half dead and asleep on her feet. Ro asked me if I minded if they bedded this poor soul down next to me. I said no problem. This was even before I knew her name. Just before she fell asleep she said her name was 'Dicea.
So I meet the Boo by sleeping with her.
A couple years later Boo introduced me to a friend of her's on the Iron Rose e-list. Then that christmas this friend came for Caer Christmas. That's how I met the Boogie.
And now they are a very important part of my life. My best friends.

Date: 2006-01-11 06:04 pm (UTC)The SCA and the friends I made there helped me through a VERY bad time in my life. I had given up and didn't see a reason to keep going.
but a small collection of people got me through the rough patch and helped me find my feet again. Going to events got me out of the house, helping at events go me participating amd making new friends.
And now, after all the years of politics and petty bickering and accusations and BS, I still come back because this is home.
I never would have met some of the coolest people in the world if not for the SCA. I wouldn't have my Aussie Boys. Get my golf cart fixes, learned to do calligraphy, discovered I hate doing french vine work on scrolls, or found my love of historical legal documents and how to use them for scroll texts if not for the SCA.
I would never have met my family if not for the SCA and all I can think of is how desolite and empty my life would be now if they were not there.
So, in the end, what keeps me coming back to the SCA...
one word...
love.
