diet stuff

I'm sure you're sick of hearing about the diet. Too bad. Don't read any further then.
Anyway, one of the things I've found difficult with this is not cutting back or not eating really bad things. The hardest part is trying to do good and eat "good things". See the problem is not so much that I don't want to eat good things (well maybe that excludes green things. I'm not real keen on green things). The problem is ... I have food allergies.
Not mild ones either. Let's see...
I'm lactose intolerant
I'm allergic to eggs
I'm allergic to Nutrasweet/aspertame
I'm allergic to raspberries
I'm allergic to cranberries
and the big one... I'm allergic to soy products.
Soy will kill me. Big bad crunky bad allergy. So I can't do things like spray butter that is 0 points because every brand I have looked at is 90% soy products. I can't do morning star pseudo meats. It's tough. Hell even things like Baked Lays or chips made with Olean are out.
But if any of my loyal readers who have made it this far know of any on-line WW friendly recipies I would appreciate links.
thanks.

And no, we're not tired of hearing about it.

This may take more time out of your day, but it'll be worth it in the long run. So it means you have to allow for olive oil in your cooking - maybe get one of those pump things from Pampered Chef (or a kitchen/foodie store) so you can make your own 'mist' for grilling & stuff.
You can carmelize onions in a pan with no oil with just a little water and they're just as good.
Experiment with veggies to find ones you *do* like. Start at one end of the produce or frozen veggies aisle and see what you like. You might find some surprises!
Can you do alternate dairy like goat milk? Lactaid? Can you do cows-milk cheese & butter? What about the rice milk and the like that are on the market these days? They're pretty good!
I'd also look at not necessarily eating "traditional" foods at the "traditional" times of day. When I was doing a "no-soy, no-fermented things, lots-of-limitations diet" back when they were trying to figure out my GI issues, I ended up eating a lot of "lunch" food for breakfast and cereal for lunch, 'cause it got me the protein early and I could make the cereal portable using UHT boxed rice milk.
Since you're mostly cooking-for-one, I'd try peanut butter on toast or a grilled meat for breakfast (maybe make a "burrito filling" and use it for a couple of days - refried beans & ground turkey, for example? - I'll send you my recipe if you like). Salad and soup for lunch, cereal for a snack, a grilled fish and veggies & rice or potato for dinner.
I'm pretty familiar with doing these sorts of adaptations if you wanna talk further. I'm online as missy2k3 on AoHell IM....

Date: 2006-01-15 08:00 am (UTC)I'm doing WW too, and although I don't have alleries as you do I am intolerant of aspertame. I've also been trying to eat more natural foods.
I've found that some of the WW cookbooks at the meetings are very good. I have the "Everyone Loves Chicken" book and that has some FANTASTIC recipies in it. I also went to a used book store and found a copy of another WW book (it's white cover and is a 3 ring binder - I can't remember the name right now) That also has some very good recipes. The best part is that since they are all "real foods" as opposed to processed to within an inch of being edible that you can more easily control what goes in them.
Let me know if you'd like me to email you any of my "favorites". (These are the ones that passed my tests, and that the SO liked.)
