I've been casually watching this whole mess that is the "interview" movie.

I have observed the reports of the hack on Sony Pictures and how "they" have evidence leading it to North Korea. I've watched the media talking about the pulling of the movie because of terrorist threats on movie theaters and now the very limited release to independent theaters and how people who said they would not have gone before are going to go to these screenings to "show the terrorists they can't scare us".

Now I understand that the leaks that have been released from the hack have had some rather embarrassing things put out in the public and all.

But a small part of me wonders.... what if this really was a giant marketing ploy? Sony recognized from early screenings that the thing was going to be a flop and engineered this all to get massive free publicity and drive the lemmings to the theater to see a movie they would not have gone to see and pay full price for it.

What's a little bit of embarrassing emails released compared to everything else?

That is...incredibly cynical - and not beyond the realms of possibility.

Is just in the area of the possible - nothing more one can say.

You're not the only one to wonder this. If it makes you a cynic, then I'm one as well.

I don't think a corporate drone - err i mean senior exec would be willing to risk *their* personal data on such a advertising venture. I suppose one could filter all the data and see if one or more employees are missing from the data.
