My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Books like this make me remember that I actually like real sci-fi. It had all the elements that drew me in and kept me listening and wanting to know what was happening next.
Bob is dead. But before he died, he had arranged to have his head cryogenically frozen. When he wakes after being in a horrific car accident, he discovers that his essence has been put into a computer and he is destined to be part of an interplanetary exploration project. He gets to fulfill a dream of exploring new places and maybe help mankind - if they don't destroy him or themselves first.
I loved the introspection that Bob undergoes, the constant Star Trek references and the cultural anthropology and international diplomacy that happens throughout the book.
I am looking forward to book 2.
