For the genre... it's wasn't bad. Oh sure it had the violence and the one scene that seems required in Norwegian suspense that makes you go "eeeeewwww". But this book at least didn't have the graphic rape that I've seen in other books of this genre.
Can't say I liked it. But I do not care for the genre and only read it for a reading challenge. I can't say that I felt any sympathy for any of the characters. In fact I kept thinking that the main character was getting exactly what he deserved. He had no redeeming qualities other than he thought he loved his wife. But he seriously treated her more like a prize possession than a partner/spouse.
I even admit to a part where I was hoping the other bad guy (because I can't call the protagonist a good guy) did find him and kill him.
And when we learn why the other bad guy was doing what he was... I thought "well, you brought this on yourself. Had you NOT done that one thing, Roger (the protagonist) would have done EXACTLY what you wanted him to do. But noooooo.... you had to try to hedge your bets and it backfired on you"
I can't say that I'd recommend the book, but I guess if you like the genre, you'd like this one too.
