My rating: 3 of 5 stars
In the Star Wars Expanded Universe books... Timothy Zahn is THE author. In the Star Wars audiobooks, Mark Thompson is THE narrator. I've liked everything either of these two have done, more so when they work together. And then throw in the main character being my favorite of the Rebellion, and you had me interested.
That being said, this story was just kinda "eh" for me. I agree with other reviewers who say this was basically "Oceans Eleven" set in the Star Wars universe.
Set between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back", Han gets approached by someone to help them steal back millions of credits that were taken from them. In exchange, he and any one he recruits would get a equal share of what was retrieved. Despite being a smuggler and not a robbery expert, Han takes the job because he still owes Jabba the Hutt a huge amount and wants to get that debt paid off. Of course nothing goes as planned, things are not what they seem and not everyone is who they say they are.
I don't know if the format of audiobook made it easier or harder to do this story. I did find it difficult to keep track of everyone involved (both "bad guys" and "good guys"). But I do love the fact that Mark Thompson does an amazing job of voicing Han and Lando, even Bobba Fett is pretty close to the original actor in the movies.
All in all, this was not one of the best Star Wars books I've read. But it is FAR from the worst.
