The Diary of a BooksellerThe Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book very much. It is simply what the title says... the diary of a bookseller. Shaun bought a used bookstore in Scotland and one random day decided to keep a diary of his interactions, sales and such over the course of a year.

I liked the little vignettes of life in a small Scottish town and his description of people that come into the store, as well as those that work for him. I often found myself smiling, if not chuckling at his tales.

All in all a sweet book, though I could see how it might not be to everyone's liking.

hmmmmmm

Might be interested in reading that....so many folks have this rose colored view of a bookseller's life. Indeed it is wonderful with interesting individuals but can also be sad. Booksellers tend to be the unpaid psychologist or listening ear in life.
