Annual look back and look forward
Dec. 31st, 2018 03:06 pmTime to once again take stock of what happened last year and what I would like to do next year. As always, I do not call these resolutions... instead they are to-do lists.
2018 to-do list
1. Health - nothing specific but slowly work to get healthier. I have started with a Hello Fresh subscription in an attempt to get me to eat like a grown up at least once a day for 6 days a week. Slowly I will add in moving more. I'd like to try to be a size smaller by Pennsic - not out of vanity but just because it would help me move and breathe better.
Well, I ate a bit better than I used to. But once again I yo-yo'd in weight and activity levels. I consider this a stalemate
2. Employment - goal is now 6 years. I like it here. In fact I was just remarking that this is the first job in a long time that I do not wake up in the morning with dread over having to go in. That's not to say that there aren't times that I would rather not go in and stay home, but that's not the same as dreading the idea.
Still employed. Still mostly enjoy. Got a kick ass review this year.
3. Arts and Crafts
A. I am going to continue with the gift exchanges. Maybe not as many but it find the challenge somewhat enjoyable.
B. get a bunch of the boxes and fabric in my garage converted into scroll cases.
C. tackle the overflowing stash of yarn and make into something.
D. I have also found that I enjoy making strip quilts (having made 2.5 this year) so I make keep that up from time to time.
E. No more buying linen until I have done something with all the linen I already have.
A. I did a couple gift exchanges, but didn't find them as fun as I have in the past.
B. I got cardboard cut up and matched with fabric, but have not made up as many scroll cases as I wanted to
C. Big old nope.
D. I made 17 quilts this year for friends and family and critters. I still really enjoy making them.
E. I used up some linen and bought some more.
4. Scribal - I want to continue to try to find the joy again. I also need to work on the research project that I've started. I have a lot of resource information. Just need one or two more things then I can compile it into a paper. The idea is to get it done for Ice Dragon, but I'm not sure that will happen.
Still working on the research paper, but still have not found the joy.
5. Reading Challenge - I enjoy this challenge immensely and have already started several books for this year.
I tackled this big time and read more than the 52 for the challenge and started another couple challenges. I had a goal of 54 books but as of today read 86 - not counting the rereads/relistens that I do over Pennsic.
6. House:
A. Front Hall
B. Oven
C. Basement
D. general organization/decluttering
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - big old fail
7. Ashley Boxes - these bring me joy. Especially seeing others take up this project. I have 4 boxes already started. One will be a birthday box in October. The other three will be my traditional advent ones. I am still waffling a little on who the recipients of those three will be. I feel that Ashley will let me know when the time is right.
Sent three advent boxes and a birthday one. I am already 2/3 done on three advent boxes for 2019
8. Social - I found that this year I became more of a hermit, actively avoiding social activities and the like. Even when I knew I needed it, I had a hard time getting myself to go do them. But Kelda and Edmund have moved to Buffalo in the last week, so I sent out the invitations to start doing a "Fourth Friday Family Food" thing with them, Minionus Maximus and Spouse, Not-a-Minion and Spouse, and Not-the-Duchess. We all agreed that the social thing was something we all wanted to work on and having a once a month thing would be a good start.
more or less did this. There were a couple months were our schedules did not cooperate but we did.
9. Brain Weasels - I need to start actively noticing when the Brain Weasels are talking. These are the ones that say things like 'if they wanted to hang with you, they'd ask. Stop bothering them' or any number of other self-destructive things. I need to recognize when they are talking and take stock of the validity and then work to mitigate my actions in response to them.
Nope. This was probably one of the worst years for my Brain Weasels to date. I lived too much in my head this year. I recognize that it's bad and I need to do something about it.
2019 to-do list
1. Health - nothing specific but slowly work to get healthier. Goals include eating more fresh things, drinking at least one full water bottle of WATER a day, walk 1/2 hour daily. I should also see about getting in to see my GP as I avoided it last year. I'd like to try to be a size smaller by Pennsic - not out of vanity but just because it would help me move and breathe better.
2. Employment - goal is now 7 years. I like it here.
3. Arts and Crafts
A. get a bunch of the boxes and fabric in my garage converted into scroll cases.
B. I did a lot of dirty pour projects last year. Maybe see about doing one a week if not more.
C.I have also found that I enjoy making strip quilts so I make keep that up from time to time.
E. Find another project to do with my hands that I can do when "just sitting"
4. SCA
A. ScribalI want to try to find the joy again. I also need to work on the research project that I've started. I was asked to be a teacher at a scribal symposium in Ealdoremere and that would be a good place to try the new class.
B. Mentor I have a new protege and I would like to spend time not only getting to know her better but seeing what I can do to help her pursue her goals.
5. Reading Challenge - I enjoy this challenge immensely and have already started several books for this year.
6. House:
A. Front Hall - still want to strip and paint
B. Oven - fix and/or replace
C. Basement - start on getting rid of crap
D. general organization/decluttering
7. Ashley Boxes - these bring me joy. I am already 2/3 done on three advent boxes for 2019
8. Social - I have became more of a hermit, actively avoiding social activities and the like. Even when I knew I needed it, I had a hard time getting myself to go do them. I need to work on stopping finding excuses to not go out and go out. This means working on the next item on my to-do list.
I need to strongly consider asking my GP for anti-depressants again and maybe check my Vit. D and B-12 levels.
