I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life by Anne BogelMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I admit that I had never heard of the author before picking this book for a reading challenge.
This short book (it's 2.33 hours as an audio) actually felt like an old friend talking about something we both love to do - read. How books can bring you back to moments in your life when you first read them, how books provide a great way to escape the mundane of the world, how books can help you find kindred spirits. Not to mention I laughed my way through the chapter on problems all book lovers face.
About the only real critique I have for the audiobook is that when it starts off, or when we get to a topic that the author feels strongly about (she is also the reader), she starts speaking really fast. I actually had to look to see what speed I was listening to it on and if I needed to bump it back down to 1.0 speed instead of my usual 1.25. But I was at 1.0 and she just talks fast when excited.
This what the book I was hoping for when I listened to Wild Things: The Joy of Reading Children's Literature as an Adult earlier in the month. I'd Rather Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life certainly felt more joyous and nostalgic.
