The Sisters (Cormac Reilly, #0.5)The Sisters by Dervla McTiernan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got this book as a freebie through my Audible membership. Normally I'm not much of a police/lawyer procedural book person (though I have been known to binge episodes of Law and Order on the TV when there is nothing else on). But like I said, it was free, and at just over 3 hours I gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised at how much i liked this story.

24 year old Aifric is starting out her law career in Dublin and get assigned a last minute murder defense case when one of her older colleagues ties on one too many the night before. However, there is no information in the file with any real evidence other than a couple statements. It just doesn't feel right to her.

Aifric's 22 year old sister and roommate, Carrie, is starting out her law enforcement career in the police, and one night sees the case file at home and looks through it. She too feels something's not right and does her own investigation, despite only being an officer, fairly new to the job and suffering from exclusion in the "old-boys" club in the squadroom.

The two team up to find the answers to the case and prove themselves to their coworkers, the establishment and more importantly to themselves.

The reading of this book was good and I found myself turning to it for entertainment during the quarantine of 2020 instead of a regular book or the TV. And I enjoyed the story and the writing enough that I have added the next book to my ever growing To Be Read list.
