The Hilarious World of Depression by John MoeMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
really 3.5 stars
I fully admit that I'd never heard of the Podcast by the same name hosted by the author of this book. I picked up the book because of the title and well, I also suffer from depression.
I'm not sure what I expected of this book but I did not get it. There was very little humor in the book that I found (which I was looking for). But there were many things that did resonate with me and I found relatable.
The author suffers from Clinical Depression and has spent most of his life dealing (nor not) with it. Though his exploration he found that he was not alone and that many famous and funny people deal with it as well.
There were things in the book that did grate on my nerves. He constantlyh referred to those with depression as "Sadies" and those who do not as "Normies". I felt that the terms put people in boxes, marginalized them or made it feel very "us vs. them".
In the end I found this book to be just 'okay'. And certainly not something I would actively recommend but would not dusade either.
