(A book translated into English)
The Time of Contempt by Andrzej Sapkowski
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Book two in the Witcher Series - which I have been burning through since watching the Netflix series earlier this year.
This installment focuses almost exclusively on Ciri and I found myself desperately wanting to smack her. As the books continue I find myself disliking her more and more. She's a spoiled little princess (literally) who, even with all the bad that happens to her, does not lose the sense of entitlement and privilege. I keep waiting for something even worse to happen to her to instill a sense of "reality" into her.
I know she's a key part of the story arc but I seriously hope either she changes around soon or quickly becomes less of a focus.
The other thing about this book is that, even though the video games are based on the books, it feels very VERY video game. The action sequences and moves just felt like something you would see sitting in front of an X-Box desperately pounding on the X and O buttons to make things happen.
I will continue the series, but I may take a break before seeking out the next book.
