What if...

What if the Sea Witch's spell was never broken? What if Ariel remained mute? What if Eric did end up marrying Vanessa/Ursula? What if King Triton was turned into and remained the sad little sea polyp? What if 5 years later, Ariel is Queen of the Sea, believing her father dead and Eric and Vanessa/Ursula remained married with Eric still under the spell and his wife ran the Kingdom?

That is the premise of this alternate history story.

Well, I've read worse fan-fiction. though those tended to be ones written by hobby writers and not stories they got paid for by the holders of the original story copyrights.

There were gaping plot holes, flat dialog, lackluster characters that felt nothing like the characters in the original movie and a story line that was ho-hum at best.

I had hopes for this tale and I have to say that this story has made me decide to not look into any of the other books in Disney's Twisted Tales series.

I'd recommend giving this a pass.

I remember being super jazzed for one of the first titles of this series - "Once Upon a Dream." The story hinges on the question "What if Sleeping Beauty never woke up?" I found the same problems you did: potholed plot, flat characters, and lackluster dialogue. I was expecting a Holly Black adventure and received trashy fanfic instead.

Since then, I've looked at the other books in the series with hope. What if they had gotten better? Thanks for proving to me that I had picked the right path originally in continuing to avoid this series!
