Previous book: Until the Beginning
Geekerella by Ashley Poston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
17 year old Elle has one escape from living with her Stepmother and her mean-girls step-sisters... the old Sci-Fi TV series Starfield. It was the one thing she shared with her late parents, especially her dad. Her father was not just a fan... he helped to found THE Con for the show.
When she learns that they are rebooting Starfield as a big budget movie, she is both excited and nervous as they have cast in the roll of the Captain a TV soap heart-throb. But she knows that the only way she will be able to see the movie opening weekend, is to win tickets by winning the cosplay contest at the Con she hasn't been to since her dad died.
Darren loves Starfield. And when he gets cast as the lead he is thrilled. But he makes the mistake of reading the fan forums and begins to second guess things. But, despite the negative comments online and being constantly hounded by paparazzi, he throws himself into the part. But then he finds he has to go to the Con associated with this part and he wonder if he has what it takes to face the critics and be bring the character to life.
+++++
This was an adorable retelling, even if it was predictable, of Cinderella.
