* serious progress in audiobook. Bahni Turpin is reading it and I have loved everything she does.

* I broke out of my comfort zone for an evening. Usually I decline such things but went to a new to me restaurant for dinner with coworkers. Good food and had some laughs.

* Snuggle time with the Grimmy. I curled up on the floor (OK on top of his blanket fort piles) and we snuggled and I ended up falling asleep with him in my arms. He woke me up after about 20 minutes and did the "go to bed momma" dance until I did. He's such a good boy.

Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1)Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

More of a 4.5 rating.

Jane was born during the War Between the States, just days before the dead rose up from a battlefield in Gettysburg. That brought the war to a rather sudden stop as there was a new danger to face.

In the years following the rising, a new political party - the Survivalist Party - sprang into being and became one of the more powerful aspects of government. Though their actions and other members of government a new law was enacted, while free, Negros and Native Americans now had to send their children to training camps when to learn how to defend and fight against what has come to be called "the Shamblers". Jane was one such child - but she got sent to one of the more prestigious schools so she could eventually become an Attendant - serving a rich family in protecting the Lady and girls of the house. The problem is that Jane has a bit of a willful streak and she ends up getting sent away.

This causes her to find out that there are foul things afoot within the Survivalist Party and she may be one of the only ones trained enough to stop it.

I really liked this take on the whole zombie genre. I had been a bit leery going in as I'm always cautious about Civil War era stories. I don't know why, but I always go into them with a strong bit of skepticism and wariness. Luckily this book swept those feelings away.

Once again Bahni Turpin's reading of a book grabbed me, dragged me under and would not let me go until I was done. I am looking forward to another in this series.

I'm fighting serious ones right now. They are poking the complete and utter Imposter Syndrome that I have been feeling A LOT in the SCA right now.

Last month I went on a road trip with Baroness K and we got to talking as we do and we plotted out a series of classes for a schola track on Deeds of Service. As she is good at doing she got me to agree to moderate a round table at an upcoming schola that more or less focuses on those of us who enjoy service, find it fun and are doing it because it's "more than a cookie".

Well that schola is this weekend. My anxiety has had me not really thinking on it since our discussion in the car back in January. I did post to a Pelican FaceBook group asking for what others thought would be good talking points should there be a need to come up with some.

I know a roundtable tends to run itself and be rather organic and feel flow stream of thought, but I'm still nervous as fuck. I'm having to hit back the BWs with a stick as right now they are screaming for me to back out, don't go, where do I get off thinking I can do this.

No seriously, right now the idea of even packing garb for Saturday is almost panic inducing. I shook as I typed out the possible talking points out into a word doc on my lunch.

I have always enjoyed this upcoming event - I autocratted it twice and organized classes twice as well back when I lived in that barony. I get to see Mini-Minion (who is not so mini anymore). I get to see and spend time with friends.

I just need to pull on the big girl panties on Saturday morning and get in the car and go.

Yeah.. just that.

*tries to ignore the chittering sounds from the back of my brain*
