I got the majority of the sopping up with pass one of the wet-dry vac. It's a 20 gallon vac and I had to empty it three times.

the carpet is still wet but at least there are no standing puddles. I've cranked the heat on as high as it will go. While not the most comfortable for me it will help dry it out faster.

I'm taking a break before I tackle pass two.

but pretty much the plans for the weekend have become: rip out the carpet.

the suggestion about renting fans is better than turning up the furnace; what you need is greatly increased airflow more than heat, which means opening the windows (an expensive proposition with the furnace at full bore). the problem with simply turning up the heat is that heat + moisture = humidity, which in turn spreads all over the house. fans will keep air moving at room temperature (or slightly cooler, especially with the windows open), and the bulk of the damp air circulation will be to whatever same-floor windows are open.

i'm sorry you're having to spend your weekend dealing with this :(

good point. thank you. I have opened all windows, turned off the heat and put on the central fan and found my two box fans and set them up.

That's a dreadful thing to happen but it sounds like you've got it as under control as possible. *hug*
