I have found that if you are mailing something to a US Senator, you address it as "The Honorable John Doe" with the address.

My question is... do you do the same for City Mayors? I have heard them referred to as The Honorable Jane Doe but for correspondence do you do it as well?

(Boss wants to send holiday cards to the mayors of the cities that our TV network is in and I want to make sure I don't do a political blunder by addressing the envelopes wrong)

I just googled "proper address for Mayor" and got several pages of answers. Most of them agree. I thought UCLA was the best of the bunch for authority and clarity. http://www.specialevents.ucla.edu/guidelines/forms_address.html

Kind of like my Father's first lesson in Hat Math... if you're really not sure which title to use, and you'd like to flatter, start with "Your Grace". :) "The Honorable" is a fine title, and actually correct.

...of course, the first person he tried it on was Rhiannon the Curious. She blushed prettily, and gently corrected him. Score! :)
