So I had thought to use my economic stimulus check, when it arrives, to do something sensible like pay down back bills from when I was unemployed.

The cosmos has said "NoooOOOOOooo" instead I will need to consider using it for new flooring in the family room.

I came downstairs this morning to the sound of water running in the laundry room. I didn't start any laundry last night when I went to bed so I was curious. a hose had burst and the entire laundry room and part of the family room were under water. Who am I kidding... ARE under water. The shag has soaked up most of it right handily but still... it's all going to have to go.

CURSE WORD, CURSE WORD, CURSE WORD.

And it's cold water too and I didn't buy my rain boots yet that I had wanted to.

Have called the bosses. Woke both of them up but too bad, I wanted to make sure folks knew I ain't coming in today.

DAMN IT.

Dicea has been keeping me sane.

She is the bestest best friend a person could have.

I couldn't find all the parts to the carpet cleaner. She said to call around and find a place that rents wet-dry vacs. I found one and she went and got the 20 gallon wet-dry vac for me and has brought it here so that I can get started on sopping up water.

she also took Grimm with her so I do not have to constantly contend with a "helpful" puppy. The cats hate the squishy carpet so I don't have to worry about them.

I"m going to grab a quick bit of protein and get to work.

I can deal. Deep breath. Deep breath.

I got the majority of the sopping up with pass one of the wet-dry vac. It's a 20 gallon vac and I had to empty it three times.

the carpet is still wet but at least there are no standing puddles. I've cranked the heat on as high as it will go. While not the most comfortable for me it will help dry it out faster.

I'm taking a break before I tackle pass two.

but pretty much the plans for the weekend have become: rip out the carpet.

The update

All the major water puddles are gone. Most of the rug has reached just damp level, if not slightly damp or dry.

I have two box fans, a desk fan and the ceiling fan going on the rug.

The girls came over and the general consensus is that we can get away without having to rip up the carpet right now. In fact, it actually kinda looks better than it did. I guess that having over 40 gallons of water run over it helps.

I'm going to let the fans run all night and hopefully it will be fine tomorrow.

Grimm is not thrilled with all the stuff that got piled up on "his" futon or the breezes by the fans, but he's got full run of the house because of the gates being down so I could put the contents of the family room into the living and dining rooms.

while not normal, life is returning there.
