Oh Mighty Wakan Tanka,
Throughout the ages you have held many names, worn many faces, looked over many people. I come to you as Medicine Woman, Shaman, humble supplicant to ask that you look over one who has served you well and long.
A great warrior, faithful follower, devoted husband, loving family member, cherished friend is in need of your aid and comfort this day.
I humbly beg you to look down upon him with your favor and ease pain and grant comfort in the best way that you see for him. Guide the doctors in their workings. Provide solace to friends and family as we need.
I have no right to ask for the miracle that we need, but I ask anyway. There is much that he has yet to give to those here. We have much to learn yet from him.
But should you decide that the best way for him is to join the Great Hunt, I ask that you please grant him the dignity due his station, and help those of us who must go on through the trying times to come.
~The Grass Child.

Obviously that's where the sage goes.
Jun. 13th, 2007 09:11 pmSo for about two weeks now I've been looking for my sage smudge sticks. I have wanted to smudge the Doma for a while, especially after a couple instances that I can't explain other than otherworldly.
But see, I hadn't been able to find my sage. It wasn't with any of my other ritual stuff. I had accepted that I was going to have to go to some new agey place to get some more sage. And frankly that was going to have to wait until after the move.
So while packing the pantry at the apartment I unearth one of my cookie jars. It's shaped like a howling wolf that actually howls when you open it. My first thought was "freecycle". And figuring there might be a hidden "surprise" in said cookie jar I look in and find... my sage!
Of course I had to go and put my sage in the container shaped like my totem.
I see the logic now. Too bad I can't follow my own logic the rest of the time.

re‧li‧gion - ri-lij-uh n [Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1). Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006. 18 Sep. 2006. Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=religion]
–noun
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
So, on the drive home from Pittsburgh yesterday, in our usual fashion, Boo and I got into a discussion about Life, the Universe and Everything. Specifically we got to talking about religion, personal beliefs, the use of personal and extra-personal energies and what is needed to have a successful and healthy relationship with the divine (in whatever form you chose to let it manifest for you).
At the end of the roughly 3-hour conversation I came to realize one thing… Everything I need to know about religion I learned from Project Runway. . I know, I know, you’re sitting there right now blinking at the screen going “Ekat has finally lost it”. But bear with me on this. I’m cutting it for length and ease for those who don’t want to read the rambling.

Reflections
Jul. 28th, 2006 03:29 pmI had been having a crappy morning.
On my lunch I went out and just looked around myself. At the living things around me.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
I was reminded of a small prayer I was taught a long time ago.
Oh my creator, you whom I worship and adore I give thanks to you for this day. For the beauty which surrounds me, I give thanks. Above me and below me, before me and behind me, all around me.
I am surrounded by thy beauty, which I recognize as a manifestation of thy goodness and mercy unto us all.
I also give thee thanks, oh my creator, for all the mysteries which abound for all those things which I cannot see and do not understand and yet in these mysteries you manifest your wisdom and domination of all.
I give thee my thanks, oh my creator, may you ever keep me grateful that I may always walk the beautiful trail.
After reciting it to myself things suddenly felt much better and I was able to deal with the rest of my day.

May. 7th, 2006 12:01 amOh mighty Wankan Tanka,
Please guide Possum gently into the next world should it be his time to go. I tried to swerve to avoid him but I did feel a bump as I passed over him. I saw him walk off the road as I looked in my rear view mirror but I could not tell if he was injured or not. Should he cross over, please make it gentle and painless for him.
Thank you.

Are you there Gaia? It's me, Ekat
Mar. 25th, 2006 01:02 pmI want to thank you for a very mild winter respectively. My back and knees appreciate not having to do tons of shoveling, and when it was necessary, thank you for sending the young man to my door who needed extra cash and was willing to do the shoveling for me.
But I'd like to discuss your plans for Spring. Looking at the calendar I see that technically it has begun. I would like to request that warmer weather please start as soon as possible and stay here. I fully understand and respect your right to be fickle and change your mind without any notice when it comes to meteorological phenomena. But that being said please... snow.. no more please.
Rain, warm and only when necessary. My lungs and allergies would appreicate as little interaction with mold and spores and the like that come along this time of year. Tzar would also like to request dry ground soon as he misses his outside time.
But on the subject of allergies and related ailments... this thing that has crept into my sinuses and ears... I'm not at all pleased with the delivery and would ask for a method of return that is quick, painless and zero costs on my behalf. Besides, the sooner it is out of my life, the sooner I can actually clean my apartment and attempt the insanely embarrassing act of doing the DDR on my playstation. I'm sure that someone of your humor would appreciate watching me make a fool out of myself (even if it is just in front of the cats).
Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.
Sincerely,
me.

Dec. 31st, 2005 11:40 amI'm not the most religious person. I don't generally hold to any actual religion. Instead of religious I tend to think of myself as spiritual.
But that being said, every now and then I come across something that moves me deep inside. I find that spiritual connection. It may be a picture, a person, thing, event or series of words.
While watching the deleted scenes from "Serenity" and came across a prayer that Shepard Book says for River's victims. So I want to share it with you. Cut for those who do not care.
